Slow and steady wins the race

Practice’ is the only the way to achieve your goals and be successful. No person is born with all the knowledge. So there is no point in fretting that someone knows more than you. You can know as much as anyone else.

In our childhood, we have all heard stories to boost our morale. As children, we probably did not understand the subtle meaning of those stories, but over the time whoever understands the true meaning moves closer to success. One such story was ‘Race between a rabbit and a turtle’. Almost everyone has read it and learnt the moral – “Slow and steady wins the race!”

We know the end – the Turtle slowly but continuously ran the race (without a break), eventually reaching the goal first. The result which earlier looked impossible was made possible. The Rabbit had lost the race to the constant and continuous efforts of the turtle. The most important lesson to be learnt from Rabbit’s defeat is that – Do not rest until your goal is achieved and do not succumb to laziness.

The tortoise and the rabbit are mere symbolic representations. If we look around us, we realize that the same two categories of people are there in the world. First are those who with continued practice amplify their efficiency and make their goals their passion. And second are those who despite being able to access the target are filled with so much over-confidence that they are never able to reach their goal.

Practice’ is the only the way to achieve your goals and be successful. No person is born with all the knowledge. So there is no point in fretting that someone knows more than you. You can know as much as anyone else. Constant practice helps increase a person’s efficiency and knowledge. That is why it has been said that,

Practice Makes Perfect

Or

“करत करत अभ्यास के जङमति होत सुजान,
रसरी आवत जात, सिल पर करत निशान।”

It means that ‘If on continuously rubbing, even a soft rope can make trails on a hard stone. Then By constant practice even a fool can become intelligent’. The key to success is sustained efforts and sacrificing laziness. You should trust your ability and also stay away from overconfidence. Or you will be in a similar situation as the rabbit.

Whatever the field may be, learning new things, moulding yourselves according to the new circumstances, are major lessons of success. To have negative thoughts sometimes is a natural process but letting the negative thoughts dominate you is the biggest obstacle to success. Having an optimistic outlook should be as natural as breathing.

Friends, in life everyone gets an opportunity but most of them lose it simply because of their laziness. So what I want to say is if you want to be successful, happy, lucky, rich, or if you want to be great; laziness and procrastination are to be forsaken. If ever you feel like postponing your studies just ask yourself one question – “Why not today? What better thing do you have to do today instead of studying?
